ZTE to supply 40pc of China Telecom’s 2012 broadband project

ZTE Corp., a Chinese leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, said on Wednesday that it won a contract to supply 40 percent of the equipment for China Telecom Corp. Ltd.'s (0728.HK, NYSE:CHA) 2012 broadband expansion project, which would make it the largest supplier of equipment for the project.
The world’s fourth-largest handset vendorsaid that the China Telecom project was worth 4 billion yuan ($635 million) in total, but a ZTE spokesman declined to specify how much its contract is worth.
According to the contract, ZTE would supply key equipment needed for China Telecom to expand its fiber-optic network, such as broadband terminal link the service provider to end users.
"With our expertise and experience in FTTH infrastructure, we are dedicated to partnering with leading operators to help them excel.” said Fan Xiaobing, Vice President of ZTE Corporation.
The company plans to launch its first smartphone based on TD-LTE technology early this month.
