Shanghai ranks highest in per capita disposable income among 28 provinces

By Nov, 18, 28 provinces in China had published per capita disposable income of both urban and rural residents in the first 3 months. Shanghai topped the ranking list by 30,205 yuan. Meanwhile Gansu Province had the highest per capita disposable income growth rate in the first 3 quarters of 14.69 percent.

Per capita disposable incomes of 8 provinces exceeded national level, Shanghai the highest

According to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), per capita income of both urban and rural residents in China was 20,190 yuan in the first 3 quarters. Per capita disposable income of urban residents was 18,427 yuan with a nominal growth of 13.0 percent year-on-year. The actual year-on-year growth rate was 9.8 percent, 2 percent higher than that of last year.

The per capita disposable incomes in 8 regions - Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Tianjin, Shandong exceeded the average national level. Shanghai ranked first (30,205 yuan), which was the only region with per capita disposable income surpassing 30 thousand yuan in China. Beijing ranked second (26,948 yuan) and Zhejiang ranked third (26,682 yuan).

Qinghai Province ranked last in the list (12,045.36 yuan). To see from regions, provinces ranking top 3 are all located in eastern China and provinces ranking last 3 are all located in western China. It is thus clear that the income gap between the east and the west is still large.

22 provinces’ per capita disposable income growth rates exceeded the national level, Gansu the highest

The per capita disposable income grow rates of 22 provinces exceed the national level (13.0 percent) in the first 3 quarters. Among them, Gansu ranked first (14.69 percent), Qinghai ranked second (14.65 percent) and Inner Mongolia ranked third (14.2 percent).

The per capita disposable income growth rate in Tianjin was the lowest (10.3 percent). To see from regions, the growth of per capita disposable income in middle and western China exceeded eastern China. The 6 regions whose per capita disposable income growth didn’t surpass national level were all eastern regions including Shanghai, Beijing and Zhejiang.

26 provinces’ per capita disposable income growth exceeded GDP growth

According to NBS data, gross domestic products (GDP) in the first 3 quarters reached 35.35 trillion yuan. The year-on-year growth rate of GDP was 7.7 percent calculated in comparable prices. Per capita disposable income of both urban and rural residents in China mounted to 18,427 yuan with the nominal year-on-year growth rate of 13.0 percent, exceeding the GDP growth rate.

Per capita disposable income growth rates of 26 regions including Beijing exceeded their local GDP growth rate. Per capita disposable income growth rate of Chongqing was equal to that of GDP (both 13.8 percent). Only Tianjin’s per capita disposable income growth rate (10.3 percent) was lower than its GDP growth rate (13.0 percent).

Liu Yuanchun, vice president of School of Economics of People’s University said that the main reason of per capita disposable income growth in each region in the first 3 quarters was the economic growth. In addition, this year government input more in transfer payment, and gave more subsidies and tax returns.
