Li Keqiang: Gap between urban and rural areas needs to be narrowed

Vice premier Li Keqiang said that the ultimate target of China’s developemnt is to enrich the people and strengthen the country, when he was presiding over a conference in Jiujiang city, Jiangxi Province on Dec. 28.
Meanwhile, the largest gap in the development is the gap between urban and rural areas and the gap between regions. This is also the biggiest problem to be solved in China’s modernization construction process. To gradually narrow the two gaps provides potential for China’s development and driving force to enrich people.
Vice Premier Li pointed out that to see from the urban and rural areas, the income of over 600 milllion urban residents is more than 4 times of that of over 6 million peasants. To see from the regions, the average per capita GDP in eastern China is over $8, 000 while the annual per capita GDP in central and western China is over $1,000. So the difference is huge.
To narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, the government will rely on urbanization, developing modern agriculture and pushing on integration of urban and rural areas. To narrow the gaps among regions, the government need to make every effort in the development of central and western China.
