Mental Health Law passed in China

China on Friday passed the Mental Health Law that is expected to better protect people's rights by prohibiting abuses of compulsory inpatient treatment, Chinese Radio Network reported.

The law, reviewed and passed by the National People's Congress Standing Committee, the country’s top legislature, stipulates that people will be sent to psychiatric hospitals only if they are diagnosed with severe mental disorders and has possibilities or real behaviors to hurt or endanger others, and they must be voluntary to be sent.
