China Mobile and UnionPay to push NFC mobile payment

China Mobile and China UnionPay have announced they have completed integration of their NFC trusted service manager (TSM) platforms in a bid to promote mobile payment methods.
The platform will be used to facilitate mobile payment, according to a statement from both companies.
The completion of the work means that Chinese banks can now use China UnionPay's TSM facility to offer customers the ability to download their bank card over the air to the secure SIM in their China Mobile NFC phone.
Subscribers will be able to add public transportation card, public insurance card, university student card, digital keycard access, and e-ticket functionality to their SIM cards.
UnionPay is China’s leading payment scheme and has the world’s largest network of payment cards, with more than 3.5 billion cards issued to date, as well as being a key advocate in China’s mobile payment eco-system.
According to ABI Research, China’s mobile commerce market is expected to become the world’s largest by 2014, with an estimated US$8 billion worth of transactions conducted via NFC.
