Chinese residents have lacking cultural consumption

Though cultural consumption plays an increasingly important role in the life of Chinese people, Chinese residents are still troubled by lacking means for cultural consumption and an undersupply of cultural products.

According to “Chinese residents cultural consumption and demand survey report” issued by the China Art Science and Technology Institute, most Chinese people spend 101 to 500 yuan monthly on cultural products (100 to 300 yuan: 30 percent, 300 to 500 yuan: 33 percent). People spending over 501 yuan only account for 6 percent and the remaining 18 percent consume less than 50 yuan.

In fact, 45.56 percent of people surveyed feel that cultural consumption is of ordinary importance in daily life, while 35.92 percent believe it is very important. Moreover, 9.23 percent feel cultural consumption is not important at all and the remaining 9.31 percent put cultural consumption at a place of extremely importance.

According to Shi Huixi, director of the survey, with the increasingly growing importance of cultural consumption in people’s daily lives, there is a hugely promising market to develop.

Moreover, surfing the Internet is the most popular cultural activity for Chinese people, especially among the young generation, followed by watching TV and films, reading, visiting museums and expositions, and travelling, the report reveals.
