Bo Xilai to stand trial next Monday

China's disgraced former senior politician, Bo Xilai, will stand trial on Monday, a pro-Beijing Hong Kong-based newspaper said on Friday.

The newspaper Ta Kung Pao reported on its website that the trial has been scheduled for three days from now and will be held Monday in the southwest city of Guiyang, Guizhou Province.

The report said police have finished their investigation and collected enough evidence, citing "well-informed Beijing sources", but giving no details.

Bo, 63, once a contender for top leadership in the world's second-largest economy, was ousted last year in China's biggest political scandal in two decades following his wife's murder of British businessman Neil Heywood, who the Wall Street Journal later reported to have links to British intelligence.

The scandal is believed to have plagued the ruling party’s once-in-a-decade leadership transition.

But Reuters cited a source with direct knowledge of the case as saying that he "had not heard" that the trial would begin next week.

One of Bo's lawyers, Li Guifang, declined to comment when reached by telephone by Reuters.
